Video inspections of Green Brook, New Jersey levee

The US Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, is building a flood damage reduction system to protect the borough of Bound Brook, New Jersey. Bound Brook is at risk of flooding from Middle Brook to the west, the Raritan River to the south, and Green Brook, Vossler Brook and Ambrose Brook to the east.

The US Army Corps, New York District, inspects the existing construction at regular intervals to evaluate system performance. The District assigned e4sciences to conduct video inspections of the drainage conduits and culverts that drain the protected side of the levee system.

e4sciences inspected more than 4,700 ft of pipe, recorded more than 21 hours of video, and noted several hundred observations. No imminent safety concerns were detected. However, the pipes showed damage such as holes, cracks, displacements, break-in taps, and obstructions. These defects are not severe, but the observed severity was unexpected for a new construction. e4sciences also performed a confined space entry inspection at one pump station.
