Arthur Kill Passaic shale

The New York District of the USACE ordered e4sciences|Earthworks to determine the diggability of gray sandstone and red shale in Arthur Kill. We used multichannel seismic and borings to map the top of rock and measure the seismic velocity of the rock strata. We used the strike and dip to correlate the behavior of the strata. Rock strata in the Passaic shale previously thought to require blasting was reclassified as potentially diggable with an excavator. The gray sandstone was confirmed require blasting.
